[više]The Grande Galerie de l’Evolution at the Musée d’Histoire Naturelle started out as the Galerie de Zoologie in 1889, coincidentally the same year the Eiffel Tower was inaugurated. It's in 1994 that it was reincarnated in its present form. Now, the public gets to see the collections under the guiding thread of evolution. With 3000 specimens exhibited in the nave alone, and 7000 in the whole museum, visitors can discover land and sea creatures, including rare, endangered and extinct species. They are also invited to reflect on the future of the planet and the responsibilities of man in its survival.
As well as the permanent collection, temporary exhibitions are also organised, and activities for families and children often take place during school holidays.
The museum is open every day from 10 am to 6 pm except on Tuesdays and on the first of May. A boutique and a cafeteria can be found in the museum, and disabled visitors can access the whole building. More information, tariffs and concessions are available on the museum's site.
